Altered States of Consciousness and Psi

Image
Psi phenomena such as clairvoyance / remote viewing (RV), precognition, and out-of-body experiences (OOB, OOBE) are usually associated with altered states such as hypnotic or psychedelic trance, dreaming, or even coma. But, is it really necessary to be in such a state to experience psi?   Most people rarely perceive psi in the normal wakeful state. Some laypeople do report experiencing psi during altered states, and there are some schools (e.g. Silva’s Mind Control ) as well as many books providing instructions for attaining psychic skills including some sort of meditation (a state often referred to by using the modern terms alfa-, theta, and delta brainwave patterns) as a fundamental technique. OOB manuals and schools (see e.g. Michael Raduga's website ) usually recommend entering a very deep hypnotic trance, typically achieved naturally immediately upon waking up or just before falling asleep. Monroe’s Institute even developed a series of CDs providing guided meditation enha...

Precognitive Dream Statistics

Image
When I started the Psioneirology project, I created an online database allowing anyone to record potential precognitive dreams. It did not reach a great popularity but it did alow me to study my own precognitive dreams. I had to remove the database after a total of 3.5 years of operation due to technical issues. In what follows, I present some statistics that I obtained after recording my dreams in the database for 9 months. During the period from 21/04/20 and 28/01/21 or 282 days, I recorded 360 dreams in my dream diary (1.3 per night on average), of which I copied only 92 in the database (i.e. about 1/4th of all). 54 % of them, i.e. 50 dreams turned out to be precognitive ones, which is equivalent to one precognitive dream every 5 days. I had recorded 20 of these 50 dreams before the outcome (marked with DR→O ❤ in the database, DR standing for dream record, and O for outcome), while I recorded the other 30 after it (marked with O→DR). There are two main reasons for this: I did n...

Which is the Optimal Mental State or Technique for Having Precognition and Can Everyone Experience it?

Image
There is quite a rich variety of mental states, including alertness, wakefulness, hypnagogia, meditation, trance, hypnosis, deep sleep, rapid eye movements (REM) sleep, lucid dreaming, out-of-body experiences (OOBE, OBE), and drug-altered states. One might ask, does extrasensory perception such as precognition and clairvoyance require getting into a particular one? Or is there any state especially favorable for inducing precognition and clairvoyance such that anyone could obtain on-demand precognitive/clairvoyant visions? It turns out that psi can be experienced in most of these states, although one of them provides particularly good results.   Dreaming The most common and well-known phenomenon is sleep precognition. Most people can experience it if they pay sufficient attention to their dreams. Unfortunately one usually does not have control over these experiences. Moreover, dreams usually introduce distortions, often referred to as symbolism. Different elements of the dreams ...

Can Mainstream Science Learn Anything from Parapsychology?

Image
Since the birth of quantum mechanics, there has been a huge debate among physicists as to how it should be interpreted, whether it is complete and whether the spooky quantum effects observed can be explained within the framework of existing knowledge. Some of the interpretations are really exotic, bordering science fiction. (From Wikipedia article Interpretations of quantum mechanics ) Also, there is an ongoing effort to create a unifying theory, encompassing quantum mechanics, relativity, and gravity, the best attempt being M-theory, the theory unifying all existing string theories. However, M-theory is not widely accepted yet, because it is insufficiently developed and incomplete, as quantum mechanics (which is supposedly part of it) is. Parapsychology has managed to prove convincingly the existence of phenomena such as telepathy, clairvoyance, and precognition, but it has failed to convince the public and the mainstream scientific community. This so to such extent, that they q...

Is There a "Universal Consciousness"?

Image
It has been given multiple names. The most used ones are variants of universal or cosmic consciousness or mind . Psychologist Carl Jung called it the Collective Unconscious . One of the fathers of quantum mechanics, Erwin Schrödinger was obsessed with the concept of Brahman used in the Sanskrit writings of the Upanishads. The physicist, engineer, and inventor Nikola Tesla and the philosopher Erwin Laszlo popularized the terms Akasha , also borrowed from ancient Sanskrit philosophy. The Chinese call it Tao. Even the concept of God , present in every culture appears to refer to the same entity. All these terms sound very abstract at first sight, but they imply a perfectly real manifestation in real life: the capacity of us humans (and possibly of any living organism) to access any information, past, present or future anywhere in space-time, absurd this might sound to our conscious and presumably rational minds. The concept is similar to that of a hologram, containing all the inf...

Einstein’s True Take on “Spooky Action at a Distance”

Image
Ultimately, Einstein’s quote “spooky action at a distance” appears in every single article discussing quantum entanglement developments. This phrase is always recalled in a context highlighting how strange quantum entanglement is and often appears to suggest that Einstein did not accept the phenomenon due to its puzzling nature, as if he were not enough open-minded to consider such phenomena. Let us see why that was not exactly the case. The quote is often attributed to his famous paper " Can Quantum-Mechanical Description of Physical Reality be Considered Complete ?" written in collaboration with Podolski and Rosen (often called APR after the initials of the authors). With that paper, they actually hypothesized for the first time the existence of quantum entanglement, based on the latest developments in quantum mechanics, and on Heisenberg's uncertainty principle in particular. However, the famous phrase "spooky action at a distance" is not from that pape...

On the Evidence of Precognition and Clairvoyance and Why Most People Still Doubt their Existence

Image
There is more than sufficient bibliography proving the existence of precognition, clairvoyance, and psi in general, including in mainstream peer-reviewed journals. But why do most people still doubt their existence? One of the most extraordinary phenomena, which at the same time is very easy to verify is precognition through dreams. All one needs to do is to have a good sleep, and then to take a few minutes to write down all dream details upon waking up. This improves memory retrieval and leaves a useful record. By assiduous practice, one will often notice real-life events that have an extraordinary resemblance to recent dreams, hardly attributable to any coincidence. This phenomenon has been known since ancient times and there are multiple records, reports, and testimonies about it. From mainstream media, it is easier to hear about aliens than about these natural and common abilities. Much of the research done in these fields is labeled as parapsychology, which is regarded with di...
